LA Civil Rights Launches 2nd Round Of L.A. REPAIR Participatory Budgeting Program

Los Angeles, CA -  Today, the Los Angeles Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department (LA Civil Rights) announced the launch of the second phase of the L.A. REPAIR program in six communities across Los Angeles, known as REPAIR Zones. From August 11 through September 17, LA Civil Rights is collecting ideas for a better Los Angeles, and will partner with community-based organizations to turn ideas into program proposals for the community to vote next year which they want the City to fund.

Local Nonprofits Awarded in LA's First Participatory Budgeting Project

LOS ANGELES - For the first time in Los Angeles City history, five community improvement proposals have been awarded over $3 million following a community-wide participatory budgeting process and vote. The Los Angeles City Council today officially approved funds to the local nonprofits selected by community members to implement community ideas in three areas known as REPAIR Zones: Boyle Heights, Southeast LA and Mission Hills-Panorama City-North Hills.

LA Civil Rights Hosts 'Birthing Justice' Screening for Black Maternal Health Week

LOS ANGELES - The LA Civil Rights Department hosted a free screening of Birthing Justice at Regal Cinemas LA LIVE today to honor Black Maternal Health Week.

"The Black Maternal Health Crisis is one of the major equity issues of our time - and this film is essential to addressing it," said Capri Maddox, General Manager of the LA Civil Rights Department. "We are here tonight because we need to put an end to this deadly crisis - and we all have a role to play."
