LA Civil Rights Department’s L.A. REPAIR Participatory Budgeting Program to Host Proposer Fairs & Vote Opportunity for the Community to Help Choose Priorities

Six Underserved and Historically Marginalized Communities to Choose How to Spend $5.4 Million of City Funding on New Services

WHAT: The Los Angeles Reforms for Equity and Public Acknowledgment of Institutional Racism (L.A. REPAIR) is L.A.'s first participatory budget pilot program. L.A. REPAIR will distribute roughly $8.5 million directly to nine L.A. City neighborhoods, called REPAIR Zones. Participatory budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which community members choose how to spend part of a public budget.  It is designed to empower underserved and historically marginalized communities in City funding decisions.

From March 15 - April 7, 2024 community members in six of these REPAIR Zones will vote on which program proposals the City should fund for their community, totaling nearly $5.4 million of the $8.5 million.  Proposals were submitted by local nonprofit organizations in response to more than 1,000 ideas generated within the community last fall. LA Civil Rights is hosting a Proposer Fair in each REPAIR Zone to encourage voters to learn about the proposals before making selections on the ballot. A voter guide and information about where to vote is available at repair.lacity.gov.

WHO:  Anyone 15 years or older that lives, works, studies, or is the parent or guardian of a student in the REPAIR Zone is eligible to vote - no documentation needed.
