Matthew Joun (he/him/his) is a lifelong resident of LA County who has a deep appreciation for diversity. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from California Polytechnic University, Pomona, and has a strong interest in literature, history, historical fencing, and video games. During his studies, he developed the ability to analyze sources from multiple angles, taking into account both prior influences and future implications. One of his intellectual heroes is Soren Kierkegaard, whose work he admires for its insights into how a sincere person should live.
As the child of two immigrants—one from Lebanon and the other from the Philippines—Matthew is keenly aware of the privilege he enjoys in living in a country of peace and abundance. He feels an obligation to use his blessings to help those less fortunate and promote justice in the world. Matthew believes that justice is an area of exploration that is essential to all levels of government and is eager to get involved in this work.
