Headshot of Commissioner, Ana Karen Estrada
Commissioner

Ana Karen Estrada (she/her/ella) serves as a Commissioner on the City's Commission on the Status of Women. Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley in a predominantly Latine community, Ana brings deep understanding of the challenges and resilience that shape working-class neighborhoods.

As the oldest of four children, Ana developed a profound sense of responsibility not just to her family, but to others navigating similar experiences. Surrounded by strong women who held so much together with limited support, she witnessed firsthand the challenges women, especially women of color, face when accessing education, opportunity, and stability.

Ana became the first in her family to graduate from both high school and college, earning her degree in Political Science with Magna Cum Laude honors from Cal State Northridge. Her upbringing taught her about resilience, inequality, and the importance of making space for voices like hers, lessons that continue to drive her work today.

Currently serving as Senior Programs Coordinator at Alliance for a Better Community, Ana leads programs focused on leadership development, advocacy, and building community power. Her background includes organizing with Planned Parenthood Los Angeles and supporting efforts that uplift young women leaders across the city. In 2023, she was honored as Youth Activist of the Year by State Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel and as a "Future Political Activist" by H.O.P.E., while in 2024, California Enviro Voters celebrated her contributions to amplifying youth political power.

Ana's lived experience and professional work have made her deeply aware of the disparities that women and girls continue to face throughout Los Angeles. She cares deeply about ensuring full and equal access to opportunity, especially for young women from underserved communities. As a Commissioner, Ana is committed to advancing the welfare of women and girls through expanding opportunity, improving safety, and increasing representation in civic life. She looks forward to making a meaningful difference in building a more inclusive and equitable Los Angeles for the next generation.
