LOS ANGELES - Today, the LA Civil Rights Department and the LA Commission on the Status of Women hosted a virtual film screening of "LFG," a gripping documentary feature centering on the United States women’s national soccer team’s public—and controversial –fight for equal pay.
We were honored to open the film with incredible slate of speakers, including Kathy Carter, CEO of the LA 2028 Organizing Committee of Olympic and Paralympic Games and Renata Simril, CEO & President of the LA84 Foundation. Other speakers included:
- Claudia Luna, Assistant General Manager of the LA Civil Rights Department.
- LA Commission on the Status of Women President Jackie Filla.
- LA Commission on the Status of Women Commissioner Marla Messing, who is also the Interim CEO of the National Women’s Soccer League.
- LA Human Relations Commissioner Angelica Solis-Montero.
Watch the opening session with these inspiring women below:
The pay gap is not just real in women's professional sports, but across industries and the nation. In 2020, women earn on average 83 cents for every dollar a man makes, and the problem is worse for women of color. In 2020, Black women only earned 63 cents for every dollar a white man earns, and Latinas only earned only 57 cents compared to white men. Click here to learn more about these numbers.
