LOS ANGELES - The LA Civil Rights Trans Advisory Council hosted its second job fair for trans, non-binary and gender nonconforming job seekers today, connecting more than 50 individuals to six Los Angeles employers and community resources. All employers completed a Gender & Sexual Diversity Training prior to the job fair.

Today's virtual fair follows a successful job fair on March 31, 2022, Transgender Day of Visibility, also hosted by LA Civil Rights and the Transgender Advisory Council.

Transgender workers face an unemployment rate that is twice as high as the general population. Furthermore, 29% of trans adults live in poverty, as well 39% of Black trans adults, 48% of Latinx trans adults and 35% of Alaska Native, Asian, Native Americans and Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander trans adults. The Transgender Advisory Council, which is a part of the LA Civil Rights Department, is an eight-member body created to advise the Mayor, City Council, elected officials, and governmental agencies to implement policy, programs, and projects that tackle the issues that matter most to the transgender community in Los Angeles. We would like to send a heartfelt thanks to our employers and advocates who attended this fair: Trans Can Work, Invisible Men, Los Angeles Clean Tech Incubator, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Everybody Gym and TransLash Media. We would also like to thank Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell for supporting this fair, and all of our job seekers for attending.

Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell, Invisible Men and the Transgender Advisory Council are also hosting a Trans Clothing Closet, in which members of the community can try on and choose free professional clothing, on September 30th. Click here to RSVP.
