LOS ANGELES - The Racial Equity and Newly Empowered Workplaces (RENEW) Program, which supports LA businesses in expanding opportunities for Black and Latino workers, announced the launch of its 2022-’23 cycle, with an orientation for new members on October 26th, exclusive benefits for LA businesses, and a shared commitment to increase the hiring, retention and upward mobility of communities of color.
The Los Angeles Racial Equity and Newly Empowered Workplaces (RENEW) Task Force supports companies with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion by providing free technical assistance to measure their commitments and outcomes, as well as connect them to City resources on procurement, contracting, and bidding.
Launched by Mayor Eric Garcetti through Executive Directive 27, RENEW is a broad coalition among the public and private sector committed to a clear goal: rooting out structural racism in our businesses and building a more just, fair, and equitable Los Angeles.
With support from the city’s Economic Workforce Development Department, Bureau of Contract Administration, Los Angeles World Airports, Regional Alliance Marketplace for Procurement and Annenberg, businesses in the City of LA can take the RENEW Pledge.
To measure this progress, RENEW will aggregate data along the following metrics over a 5-year period:
- Racial representation (%) in new hires across all functions
- Racial representation (%) in managers & executives
- Gap in like-for-like employee compensation
- % of total spend with suppliers with minority-ownership
- Racial representation (%) in marketing or business development spend
- Total resources contributed to equity-related causes (e.g. resource $ value or $)
This data will be studied in a collaborative way to increase Black and Latino new hires, leadership, pay equity, vendor spending, marketing spending, and philanthropic spending.
A virtual New Member Orientation for any interested business will take place on Wednesday, October 26 at 2PM PST. Click here to RSVP.
