LOS ANGELES - LA Civil Rights celebrated Pride Month all across Los Angeles. From the Valley to South LA, Hollywood to Boyle Heights, our team was loud and proud in all parts of our city to share our resources and help build an #LAforAll.
We kicked off Pride Month with LA Pride on June 12th, presented by Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell. LA Pride is the longest-running Pride march in the nation, going strong for 50 years. This year, the parade returned to Hollywood, and we were there with Council President Nury Martinez, Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell, and staff of Mayor Eric Garcetti. LA Civil Rights staff, volunteers, and members of our Human Relations Commission and Transgender Advisory Committee marched together to celebrate LA's LGBTQ+ community.
On June 18th, we joined Councilmember Kevin de León and community members in Boyle Heights for the 2nd Annual Boyle Heights Pride. This Pride event for the eastside brought together drag shows with mariachis, classic low-riders with community resources. We loved meeting local LGBTQ+ orgs like Mi Centro and Latino Equality Alliance and so much more.
On June 25th, we joined the 7th Annual Valley Pride in Van Nuys. This annual Pride event hosted by Council President Nury Martinez brings together local resources and non-profits with family-friendly fun to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community of the San Fernando Valley. We enjoyed meeting so many people from the community - you can catch a video recap of the day by clicking here.
Finally, we rounded out Pride Month in South LA at the 4th Annual South LA Pride Community Picnic on July 1st! This community event was co-presented by Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Councilmember Herb Wesson, and hosted by Councilmember Curren Price, Councilmember Mike Bonin, and South LA Pride Chair Jasmyne Cannick. The picnic brought together artists, local vendors, community-based organizations and lots of voguing.
