February 2025 was a powerful month for LA Civil Rights as we honored African American Heritage Month with impactful events and historic milestones. From the Los Angeles City Council’s kick-off celebration to the groundbreaking release of our Reparations Advisory Commission’s comprehensive study, An Examination of African-American Experiences in Los Angeles, the month was filled with moments of reflection, progress, and unity. Among the many bright lights was Leroy Hamilton, whose powerful art exhibit, The Story of Us, was honored throughout the month at the Henry P. Rios Gallery in City Hall. We proudly co-hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson and other City leaders, marking this significant tribute to Black history and culture. We also joined the community in the 40th annual Kingdom Day Parade, where families and young people came together in celebration and solidarity.
