LOS ANGELES - Following the racist and hurtful comments by three City Councilmembers and a labor leader made public on October 10th, Mayor Eric Garcetti and LA Civil Rights co-hosted a unity event with faith and community leaders. The event, which featured leaders from Indigenous, Latino, African American, Jewish, Armenian and other communities, provided space for healing and a pathway forward.
"'LA For All' does not describe who we are, but who we can be," LA Civil Rights Executive Director Capri Maddox said at the event, invoking the departments LA For All anti-hate PSA campaign. "It is a north star guiding us to a more equitable and empowered city. It is a declaration of the kind of city we want to be. It is not just a campaign, it is a call to action...We can either be an LA For All or an LA For those in power."
