LOS ANGELES - LA Civil Rights published a new community calendar today, which will feature events happening across Los Angeles to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the 1992 LA Civil Unrest.
April 29, 1992 is known as the start of the '92 LA Civil Unrest. Years of economic disinvestment, over-policing, and discrimination manifested in five days of civil unrest, in which African American and Korean American communities, among others, suffered great harm. Thirty years later, much has changed - but too much has stayed the same.
The Forward Together community calendar was created to provide a central hub of all the various events happening to commemorate the anniversary, as well as showcase all the communities across the city who remain engaged on the issue. The calendar was created by the LA City Human Relations Commission and LA Civil Rights staff.
LA Civil Rights is committed to moving our city forward together. We invite everyone in Los Angeles to honor the anniversary of the LA Civil Unrest by joining one of the many community events happening across our city.
Events can include those hosted by community organizations, non-profits, government agencies, and more. If you have an event that you would like added to the calendar, please email Tajwar Khan at tajwar.khan@lacity.org and Mark Pampanin at mark.pampanin@lacity.org.
