LOS ANGELES - Today, LA Civil Rights co-hosted a film screening and panel discussion of Yance Ford's Color of Care, a 2022 documentary on the racial inequities in healthcare laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic. The screening, also hosted by UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and Picture Motion, was watched by over 100 medical doctors, students, residents, and others virtually and in-person in UCLA's Geffen Hall.
Color of Care, produced by the Smithsonian Channel and Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions, chronicles how people of color suffer from systemically substandard healthcare in the U.S. and how COVID-19 exposed the tragic consequences of this inequity. Using moving personal testimony, expert interviews, and disturbing data, the film reveals the impact of racism on health, serving as an urgent warning of what must be done to save lives.
