"With everything going on with the world there are always people seeking asylum and sanctuary. I wanted to show that not everyone in LA comes from money. Sometimes all we are searching for is a place to call home within areas of violence whether it’s racial, social, or economic. All communities
should be welcoming to new Angelenos no matter their background and status. I wanted to represent the feeling of moving into a new space with nothing but the clothes on your back and essentials to start a new life. We carry our memories with us the same way we carry our belongings when moving into a new home. Later to unpack what we left behind. Letting people into your home is allowing someone into your community as well as being welcoming and open minded with the freedom to express yourself openly without worry, that is sanctuary too." -- Nancy Rivas
