"I chose to create a poster that focuses on history, identity, nostalgia, and the preservation of memories through our elders to convey how crucial and important they are to our community. My poster showcases my abuelita and her siblings, in their childhood home of Ixtacamaxtitlan, Puebla. They are the elders I wish to protect, but I hope others will recognize their own elders in these pictures. In order to convey that this is a call to action, I used a chiseled black marker to construct my type for the main message in homage to all historical protest posters. On the other side, I picked design ideas from a love letter that Frida Khalo wrote to Diego Rivera in order to link to my family’s past and highlight the need to preserve memories. A yearbook, scrapbook, or poster are just a few examples of how we could save our memories, and the entire design makes that point." -- Kelsey Bueno
