Public Information Director
Alison Simard (She/her) serves as the Public Information Director for the LA Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department. In her role, she oversees all external and internal marketing and communications including press liaison. She brings more than 30 years of public relations, marketing and corporate communications experience across private, nonprofit and government sectors to her role. Before joining LA Civil Rights, Alison worked as Director of Marketing and Communications for Heal the Bay, a nonprofit organization working to protect the coastal waters and waterways of greater LA. Previously, Alison served for more than five years as Communications Director and Press Spokesperson for LA City Councilmember Paul Koretz (CD5), where she also worked on a variety of environmental and animal welfare legislative issues along with highlighting nonprofit organizations and individuals that make Los Angeles a better place to work, play, and live.
Passionate about public service, animal welfare and environmental protection, Alison co-founded Citizens for Los Angeles Wildlife (CLAW), an environmental non-profit organization committed to the protection of wildlife and open space in LA and remains an active voting member of the Board of Directors. Alison earned a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing and English Literature from the University of Montana. She began her career in Sacramento as a PR representative for the Mountain Lion Foundation at the State Capitol and has participated in a variety of wildlife, environment, and alternative energy campaigns throughout her career.
